Sisters Only! Would you marry a Black Man?
So be totally honest sisters...Would you marry an African-American or Afro-Caribbean brother? There is no judgment on you regardless of your answer. And do not answer the way YOU THINK you are SUPPOSED to answer or because Brother Dash is African-American. HONEST ANSWERS or the responses are of no value. And sisters only! No brothers please! Whether you are currently married, looking, not interested in marriage, too young, been there done that...WHATEVER. Answer the 'would' part. So would you? And please be honest. Your responses are anonymous anyway and only honest answers will be of value. And please send this to others as well that may find it interesting.
30 years after The Sugarhill Gang introduced most of America, including even the streets of New York to this new sound called "Rap" Hip Hop is still a male dominated art form. As Muslim Hip-Hop gains in popularity one of the only female Muslims has been blazing the scene for several years. The Brooklyn born emcee Miss Undastood is the undisputed First Lady of Muslim Hip Hop. A self proclaimed "proud muhajabah" (hijab wearing Muslim woman) this sister known for a sharp tongue that endears her to sisters and brothers alike spends a few moments with The ChaiPod. Join us for this rare personal conversation with hijabi hip-hop artist...Miss Undastood!
In May and June of 2008 I ran a one question poll on my website, www.brotherdash.com, asking what kind of music (if any) do people listen to. The choices were mainstream music only, Islamic music only, both but mostly mainstream, both but mostly Islamic and neither. I will get to the results in a moment. Why did I ask the question? For one I usually have some kind of one question poll on the site as it is a great way to build some interactivity and stickiness to a website. But more than just marketing I was really interested in seeing, statistically, what people (and mostly Muslims) were doing practically in their lives regarding music. We hear about 'music being haram' and 'only the duff' from some vocal Muslims. This issue of listening to music has been a topic of debate for years and as new waves of immigrant Muslims come to the West and excited newbie converts come into Islam the question comes up again and again like waves hitting the shore. The purpose of this short commentary, and the poll itself, is not to discuss the halal/haram of music.
The music poll has now closed. Thank you all for voting. We hit our goal of 100 respondents. The results are quite interesting. A review of the results will be posted in a couple of days. Thanks for your participation.
